Student Captains

Katherine joined debate in middle school and began competing in eighth grade. Along the way, she has developed a passion for public speaking, critical thinking skills, and many valuable friendships. Through participating in debate, she’s learned the importance of having confidence and strong communication abilities. As a captain, she is looking forward to supporting the Potomac community and creating lasting memories.

Preston began debating at Potomac in eighth grade, where he took a profound interest in unique case writing strategies and innovative weighing tactics. Preston enjoys all the special opportunities debate offers, such as meeting new faces, acquiring more knowledge about the world around him, and enhancing his public speaking skills. With familiarity in both lay and technical debate, Preston hopes to teach students how to win the flow while adapting to all types of judges. He is extremely excited to lead the team and share his experiences with the rest of the Potomac community!

Sherry is a junior at Richard Montgomery High School. She started debating with Potomac in middle school and has since developed a passion for public speaking and researching global issues. Her favorite aspect of debate is learning about new topics and becoming friends with people from across the country. As a team captain, Sherry is so excited to build a community and help Potomac grow!

Zayd Patel is a Senior at The Heights School in Potomac, MD. Starting debate with Potomac midway through 7th grade, he has since enjoyed both Public Forum and Lincoln Douglas debate. Zayd enjoys all real-life skills debate provides, and has a particular liking for lay debate. His favorite part of debate, however, is its strategic structure and the competitive atmosphere the activity provides. Zayd is thrilled to help prepare the team through technical and experiential means and is looking forward to a great year for the Potomac team!
